Ensure Continuation of Hybrid Classes at LW Tech's Design Program

The Issue

What Is Hybrid/HyFlex Learning?
Hybrid (also called HyFlex) learning allows students to choose how they attend class—either in person or virtually (via platforms like Microsoft Teams). This flexible model increases accessibility and inclusion, making education more attainable for individuals balancing disabilities, health concerns, childcare, work, or commuting challenges.

Why This Matters
As a student with disabilities and involvement in the design program at Lake Washington Institute of Technology, I have personally seen the positive impact of hybrid classes. They provide essential flexibility and remove barriers that prevent many students from fully participating in their education.

The Issue
Despite these benefits, LWTech plans to eliminate hybrid classes in the design program starting Fall 2025. This decision threatens accessibility and makes it harder for many students to continue their education. Hybrid learning is not just a convenience—it’s a necessity in today’s world.

What We’re Asking For
We urge LWTech’s administration to reconsider this decision and continue offering hybrid options. Education should adapt to meet the needs of all students, not create unnecessary barriers.
