The Issue

Growing up in a city like Mumbai, where we trust the services provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for our daily needs, it is disheartening to find ourselves enveloped in a crisis when the basic necessity of clean water turns questionable. Recently in Adarsh nagar (New link road), Jogeshwari west area (K west ward), my family has been directly impacted as my mother fell severely ill due to the contaminated water supply from BMC, marked by a foul, persistent smell. Such instances not only corrode trust but also endanger the health and well-being of thousands of residents.

Mumbai deserves better. Our city prides itself on modern infrastructure and a rapidly growing economy. However, the fundamental backbone of our health and sustenance — clean water — is at stake. Numerous residents across different housing societies, like my own, have reported similar issues of foul-smelling water which indicate potential contamination. This problem, if left unchecked, can lead to severe health crises, affecting children, elderly and people with compromised immunity the most.

Affected places: Ganesh niwas CHS, EL signora, Shiv sfurti 1 and 2, Dubali chawl

The source of this contamination must be investigated thoroughly. It's critical that the BMC takes immediate corrective measures. We demand:

1. **Immediate Testing**: Employ rigorous testing of the water supply for harmful contaminants across affected areas and ensure the results are publicly accessible for transparency.

2. **Infrastructure Overhaul**: Invest in upgrading the current pipelines and water treatment facilities to ensure that such failures do not recur.

3. **Regular Monitoring**: Establish a systematic, routine water quality monitoring schedule to ensure sustained safety.

4. **Community Advisory**: BMC must keep local communities informed about any changes or discrepancies in water quality to allow residents to take precautionary measures.

The dangers of consuming contaminated water are not just hypothetical; they have tangible consequences that can be observed in increased visits to hospitals, loss of workdays, and an overall decrease in our quality of life. It’s essential for BMC to act fast, not only to provide the basic entitlement of clean water but to restore faith in public services.

Let us come together to demand accountability and immediate actions. Sign this petition to urge the BMC to ensure a safe, reliable, and transparent water supply for all Mumbaikars. Our health, our families, and our future depend on it.
