Every year, thousands of veterans who proudly served in the UK Armed Forces pass away. These brave individuals dedicated their lives to safeguarding our nation, and it is our duty to honor their sacrifices appropriately. Despite this, many veteran funerals go without any formal recognition or ceremonial tribute from the Armed Forces, leaving families to shoulder the emotional and financial burden alone.

Veterans have endured unimaginable hardships during their service, from ground operations to peacekeeping missions, often at great personal risk. Upon completing their service, many suffer from physical and mental health challenges, yet continue to contribute positively to society. They deserve a final farewell that acknowledges their unwavering dedication and courage.

Unfortunately, current policies do not mandate Armed Forces recognition at veteran funerals, which leads to inconsistencies and missed opportunities to properly honor those who served. This omission undermines the commitment made by the government to its veterans and overlooks the significant contributions these individuals have made.

We propose a simple yet respectful solution: All UK Armed Forces veterans' funerals should include official recognition from the Armed Forces. This could involve a ceremonial guard, the presence of a military chaplain, or the option of draping the Union Jack over the casket. Additionally, logistical support for families to organize these honors should be made available.

Providing veterans with a dignified farewell not only pays tribute to their service but also reinforces the values of respect, honor, and integrity that are the cornerstone of our military tradition. By ensuring consistent Armed Forces recognition, we reaffirm our nation's gratitude and respect for those who have served.

This change would require government support and funding, but the impact on the families and communities, and the message of enduring respect for our veterans, would be immeasurable.
