We are members of the communities of local residents, skaters, scooters, riders, and parents,  who care about the Skate Park (Wheel Park) in St George Park. 

We believe St George Skate & Wheel Park has proved an irresistible draw for local, national and international visitors for decades. Its continued and unique appeal kept alive through the care and custodianship of the local skate community.

In late 2025, funding was secured to develop and deliver a new community vision for the park, to improve and protect this unity asset for the generations of skaters, riders and rollers to come. We understand that essential water infrastructure works now delay and disrupt this vision, and it is up to us, Bristol City Council and YTL Group / Wessex Water to ensure the vision is not completely derailed.

We are aware that Bristol City Council’s Public Health & Communities Policy Committee will be voting on whether to accept a grant from YTL offered as mitigation for the delays and disruption. 

We ask that the Committee see this as a first step in protecting our skate park, not as the end point.  That they work to ensure that no one is left without access to a place to skate for the years that these works may take, and that upon their completion we have a top quality destination skate park that reflects the heritage of the park that was first created in 1983.

Towards this goal we ask that the Committee ensure that skate they, the rest of the council commit to the following, and encourage YTL to do the same;

• Work transparently, fairly and collaboratively with all stakeholders, to support the ambition, imagination and expectation of our community, in harmony with critical infrastructure needs.
• Bring rider and community voices and expertise into the planning room immediately — ensuring subterranean engineering actively enables, rather than limits, our above-ground ambition.
• Ring-fence secured upgrade funds against rising costs and new complexities. Secure and binding developer commitments, to ensure these are fully covered and compensated. Project impacts, and risks are measured and fully mitigated.
• Work openly with local residents to protect delivery timelines, maximise resources, and secure the park’s long-term stewardship and maintenance.
