Ensure a fair World Cup venue for Bangladesh cricket team
The Issue
We, the Bangladeshi cricket fans and supporters, have witnessed an alarming trend of hostility and discrimination against Bangladeshis in India. This alarming trend has raised serious concerns about the safety and fairness of hosting international sporting events, such as the World Cup, in India for Bangladeshi players and fans.
In recent times, the tension between India and Bangladesh has escalated, notably after the July 24 revolution. Instances of alleged violence against Bangladeshis in India and the growing rumors and misinformation about our country have fostered an unsafe environment. There have been reports of Bangladeshi individuals being targeted under suspicions of illegal migration, further straining the relationship.
This uneasy climate extends into the realm of sports, with allegations that Bangladeshi cricketers face bias and prejudice in Indian leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL). For example, Mustafizur Rahman, a talented Bangladeshi cricketer, experienced rejection from the Indian Premier League's franchises like the Kolkata Knight Riders, reportedly on baseless grounds rooted in religious and cultural sentiments.
Furthermore, there have been claims of mistreatment of migrant workers from West Bengal working in various parts of India, simply for speaking Bangla. This deep-seated prejudice potentially jeopardizes the integrity of cricket matches scheduled in India, as fair play and acceptance stand as pillars of this beloved sport.
We urge the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its member nations to reconsider the venue for hosting the World Cup matches involving Bangladesh. It is essential to ensure that the environment is safe, neutral, and free from any form of discrimination.
Moving the matches outside of India will not only protect the players but also restore the faith of fans in the fairness and spirit of cricket. We believe that by doing so, cricket can continue to serve as a bridge of friendship, rather than a ground for conflict.
Sign this petition to demand justice for the Bangladeshi cricket team and ensure a World Cup environment that is fair and welcoming for everyone. Help protect the integrity of cricket and show the world that sports can unify rather than divide.
