Downtown Charlottesville is a vibrant and crucial part of our community, attracting local residents and tourists alike. However, concerns around cleanliness and safety have started to plague this historical district. All residents deserve a city center they can feel proud to call their own, welcoming to all who visit our beautiful city. It's time for the city officials to step up and address these concerns to maintain the charm and vitality of Downtown Charlottesville.

We specifically recommend the following strategies to help Downtown reach it's potential: 

• Work with Friends of Cville to implement a Downtown ambassador program such as Block by Block to take over cleanliness and maintenance for the Downtown district.
  • Duties may include: Trash pickup, graffiti removal, power washing, planting, mulching, watering, lost and found, visitor guidance, and outreach to connect community members with needed services. 
• Support the creation of a free public health clinic Downtown in partnership with UVA.
• Support the creation of a low barrier homeless shelter with wrap around services.
• Designate a campsite with bathrooms, showers, and storage.
• Increase lighting and seating options Downtown.
