Enrolled Nursing minutes to be recognised in the Government Funded Aged Care Model

Enrolled Nursing minutes to be recognised in the Government Funded Aged Care Model
The issue
Enrolled nurses have sadly been forgotten in aged care. Due to lack of recognition by the Government. Some of them being forced out an industry they love. Some having their job titles changed. Carers are administering medications to your loved ones. A majority of these carers do not have english as their first language.
The government promised to fix aged care. Instead we are going backwards. Health professionals should be delivering clinical care to our residents. Our seniors deserve better.
The Government has failed to recognise that ENs are also 'registered' nurses with skills and education to carry out 95% of RN tasks.
The contributions made by enrolled nurses in aged care are unparalleled. Despite this significant impact, they remain unrecognised in the government's aged care funding model. This unacknowledged group of dedicated healthcare professionals plays a critical role in providing essential services for our most vulnerable citizens. In the year 2020, around 366,000 nurses, including enrolled, registered, and nurse practitioners, were contributing to the healthcare sector of Australia (source: Australian Institute of Health and Welfare). Among them, a significant percentage works in the aged care sector, providing compassionate and skilled care to our ageing population. It is an issue of fairness and recognition that the government's funding model in aged care should duly account for the services provided by enrolled nurses. By signing this petition, we can advocate for their deserved inclusion in the government's funding model. Let's stand up for enrolled nurses and their invaluable contribution to aged care.
