Dear Members of the European Union, President Enrique Pena Nieto, Citizens of the European Union, President Jean-Claude Juncker, Prime Minister Theresa May:

For the longest time, Mexico and the United States have been commercial partners, allies and friends. Citizens of both countries cross the border both ways every day and our borders are by far some of the most active and safe borders that can be found in the world. Our families extend beyond these borders and thousands of ex-pats enjoy the many benefits of living in Mexico while many of our fellow countrymen move to the United States to search for better opportunities for their families and themselves.

This well-established relationship however is being threatened by the ideas of Mr. Donald Trump and his followers. In fact, Mr. Trump has built his campaign on hatred and discrimination against our fellow citizens who are looking for opportunities that aren’t always easy to find in our country. Mr. Trump has claimed that our people are mostly thieves, killers and rapists while blaming the problems of his nation on a few rotten apples that do not represent the entirety of the Mexican population.

This uncertainty has also caused the value of the Mexican peso to plummet. Affecting hundreds of thousands of business that rely on imported goods for their operation as well as diminishing the value of the wage earned by the hard-working Mexican people, causing further problems that need to be addressed immediately.

 Coincidentally, Britain has requested to leave the European Union claiming that the economic benefits of being in the union are simply not worth. This, along with xenophobia has created a divide in the ideas shared amongst the European community. It would seem like this protectionist doctrine aligns well within the ideas of Mr. Trump himself, which is why we; the citizens of Mexico request that our government files an application to replace Britain in the European Union in case Mr. Trump wins the upcoming election.

This move would certainly benefit all parties involved; Mexico would no longer have to worry about travel restrictions with its closest allies, the value of our currency would remain relatively stable and the European Union could provide military and economic relief to Mexico if/when needed. The US and Britain would no longer have to worry about the effect of immigration on their economies and society and the European Union would obtain culturally-rich ally that is a manufacturing powerhouse with plenty of job openings in the fields of engineering, science and commerce.
