PETITION TO THE MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER OF ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY

URGENT INTERVENTION INTO THE ONGOING WATER CRISIS IN PHOENIX

PETITION

We, the undersigned residents of Phoenix and surrounding communities, respectfully petition the Mayor and City Manager of eThekwini Municipality to urgently intervene and resolve the ongoing water crisis affecting our communities.

For an extended period, residents have experienced repeated water outages, water shedding, low water pressure, burst pipes, delayed repairs, and inconsistent communication from the Municipality. These ongoing failures have placed an unacceptable burden on families, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, the elderly, and vulnerable residents.

Access to clean water is a basic human right guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa. We therefore call on the Municipality to fulfil its constitutional and legal obligations by taking immediate and decisive action.

WE DEMAND:

The immediate restoration of a reliable 24-hour water supply throughout Phoenix.
A comprehensive and publicly available action plan to address the current water crisis.
Emergency water tankers to be deployed promptly to all affected areas whenever interruptions occur.
Urgent repairs and maintenance of burst pipes, reservoirs, pumps, valves, and all failing water infrastructure.
Weekly public progress reports informing residents of repair work, planned maintenance, and expected restoration times.
Improved communication with residents regarding planned interruptions and emergency outages.
A formal meeting between eThekwini Municipality and representatives of the Phoenix community to discuss long-term solutions and accountability.
DECLARATION

By signing this petition, I support the call for urgent intervention by eThekwini Municipality to resolve the Phoenix water crisis. I believe every resident deserves reliable access to clean water and accountable service delivery.
