Deer Creek has had enough: NO zoning changes or new construction
We are Deer Creek -- a residential community of 623 single family homes in Saint Cloud, FL.
This petition is regarding the 9+ acre parcel (folio #27-26-30-4950-0001-1160) in the Bristol Cove section of Deer Creek, and a proposed zoning change (DRC Case# ZMA21-00007) that would allow developers to build homes on this land.
-- Richmond American Homes already tried once to get the zoning changed in 2019-2020 [DRC Case #ZMA19-00003] in order to build more homes and was denied by the Planning Commission at the hearing on 18 February 2020.
-- Homeowners who purchased homes adjacent to this lot report that they were told by the builder that this was a conservation area and were charged a premium conservation lot fee when they purchased their homes.
--Deer Creek already has well documented traffic issues and the construction of additional homes will add more traffic to our already over populated roadways. We have only one entrance/exit and it's not possible to add another.
--New construction would destroy a 9.5 acre established wildlife habitat that includes eagle nesting, owl nesting, and provides for other local fauna.
-- Additionally, removing the existing wetland and adding new construction will further negatively impact the quality of life in Deer Creek by increasing the potential for flooding in the community. Parts of Bristol Cove and the newly completed Deer Creek West are already prone to flooding.
By signing this petition, we, the homeowners and residents of Deer Creek, seek relief and urge the City Council, Community Development, and Planning and Zoning to do the right thing for our community: Deny the proposed zoning change and deny new construction in our community.
