Enough is Enough: LA, We Deserve Better for Our Animals!
The Issue
Animals in LA shelters are facing a heartbreaking reality: overcrowded kennels, inadequate care, and the constant threat of euthanasia.
While hundreds are euthanized weekly, Los Angeles continues to issue breeding licenses, adding tens of thousands of puppies to the already struggling system.
In 2023, approximately 20,000 animals were euthanized in shelters across Los Angeles (this does NOT include rural shelters).
In the same year, approximately 1,800 breeding licenses were handed out.
The estimated number of puppies that can be born from 1,800 breeding licenses is between 10,800 and 18,000.
Here's the breakdown:Minimum puppies: 1,800 licenses * 6 puppies/litter = 10,800 puppies
Maximum puppies: 1,800 licenses * 10 puppies/litter = 18,000 puppies
Rescues like Real Good Rescue fight tirelessly to save lives, but we need your help. We demand action from our city leaders:
- Moratorium on breeding licenses: Stop adding to the problem until the senseless and unnecessary killing of animals ends.
- Increased enforcement: Crack down on illegal breeders and neglectful owners.
- Mandatory spay/neuter programs: Address the root cause of unwanted animals.
- Investment in shelter capacity and adoption initiatives: Give existing animals a fighting chance.
Without the GOOD rescues & foundations, and the amazing shelter volunteers & networkers, many animals would not make it out alive. But we are drowning- and hundreds of thousands of dogs are living in horrific conditions and ultimately being euthanized. WE NEED YOUR HELP.
