Enough Is Enough: Demand Action on the Anchorage Motel in Rouses Point
Enough Is Enough: Demand Action on the Anchorage Motel in Rouses Point
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, are calling on our Village Board to take immediate and decisive action to address the ongoing public safety crisis associated with the local motel currently being used for Section 8 housing.
For years, our community has witnessed a steady increase in police activity, disturbances, and criminal incidents connected to this location. What may have begun as an effort to provide housing assistance has, in practice, led to repeated and serious safety concerns for surrounding families, businesses, and residents. The situation has now reached a breaking point with the recent tragic loss of life that occurred on the premises. This devastating event has shaken our community and underscored the urgent need for action.
Let us be clear: we recognize that not every individual residing at this motel is responsible for these issues. Many people rely on housing assistance and deserve safe, stable environments in which to live. This petition is not a condemnation of those in need it is a call for accountability, safety, and responsible oversight.
However, the pattern of crime and danger linked to this property can no longer be ignored or tolerated. Our community members have the right to feel safe in their homes, to allow their children to play outside without fear, and to live without the constant anxiety brought on by repeated incidents at this location.
We respectfully but firmly demand that the Village Board explore and pursue all available legal, regulatory, and administrative avenues to:
- Investigate the management and operations of the motel
- Enforce all applicable safety, zoning, and housing codes
- Reevaluate its use as a Section 8 housing site
- Take the necessary steps to shut down the property if it cannot meet standards that ensure public safety
Enough is enough. Our community deserves action, transparency, and results.
We urge our local leaders to prioritize the safety and well-being of residents and to act swiftly before further harm occurs.
Sign below to demand accountability and restore safety in our neighborhood.
