More Development in Lacey?

Who makes that decision? What is enough?  Where is it happening? When did it get out of control? Why can't we control it? How did we get here?

Say NO to more!

One year ago (June 2021), Lacey Township officials spurred a local headline: Lacey Asks County Commissioners to Preserve Property Off Route 9.  If you read the article, you'll see that a development of 68 townhomes across from Applebee's on Route 9 in Forked River was considered controversial for "traffic impacts and environmental concerns", and Lacey officials sprang into action to stop it. They wanted Ocean County Natural Lands to preserve it.

Yet, here we are, June 2022 looking at 78 more housing units being built where the go-carts used to be on Route 9 (Niko Sushi) and yet ANOTHER larger and what should be more controversial development is currently seeking approval at the Lacey Township Planning Board. This time, 270 residential units (TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY) in Lanoka Harbor near Hebrew Park. Right next to the rail-trail. Lacey officials haven't said much this time around. Who knows what is next!

At issue is the developer known as M&T at Lacey has filed application for approval to build 9 buildings totaling 270 residential apartment units and a clubhouse behind CVS at Laurel Boulevard, along with 15,000 square feet of retail space, a convenience store, and a gas station.  This site has environmental protections and does not have permits from the State of New Jersey. The Lacey Planning Board will need to give over a dozen variances and waivers. It's going to be a traffic nightmare, too.

Ask Lacey Township elected officials to bring back that headline and preserve the property off Route 9 in Lanoka Harbor this time.  Even if the developer moves ahead with stores and a gas station by CVS, it should be that the environment and traffic are two big reasons to preserve this land from 270 housing units.  That's a lot of cars and kids in school!

Tell Lacey officials: enough is enough!
