Enhanced Controlled parking zones - 24/7 residents only parking for Albion Way, Bonfield Road and Mercia Grove. Additional parking measures for Clarendon Rise & Gilmore Road to prevent parking displacement. 

Roads adjacent to Lewisham Town Centre are blighted with illegal and inconsiderate parking from shoppers. This generates considerable issues such as 

• Antisocial behaviour - road rage, honking, revellers returning from late night venues. , 
• Pollution from idling waiting cars
• Residents being blocked in and unable to use their own vehicles
• Roads being inaccessible to deliveries, bin collections etc
• Creates a dangerous environment for people trying to cycle to the town centre or walk to the local schools. 

The root cause of the issue is these roads (Albion Way, Bonfield Road & Mercia Grove) are closer to the town centre than the public car parks - shoppers want to park as close to their destination as possible. This added to traffic from high street deliveries, market trader activity and school street displacement creates a deeply unpleasant environment for local residents.

All roads within a short walk of the town centre will likely be impacted, Clarendon Rise and Gilmore Road as an example. It’s important that Lewisham Council considers the impact to all these roads and puts in place appropriate measure to prevent parking displacement. 

With the planned demolition of the multistory car park serving the shopping centre, addition of thousands of new homes (with no parking facilities) and the council’s ambition for increased ‘night time offering’ in the Town Centre this situation is only going to get worse.  

Lewisham Council has proposed some immaterial changes to parking restrictions as part of their 'Sustainable Street' initiative. These minor changes do not reflect the local context of these roads and will have zero impact on improving the situation.
