In New York State, there are over 15,000 children in foster care (source: U.S. Department of Health & Human Services). These children and their foster families rely on home visits to ensure their well-being and progress. However, the current training provided for conducting these home visits often falls short of equipping professionals with the necessary skills to make these visits as productive and beneficial as they could be.

We believe that by enhancing this training, we can greatly improve the quality of these home visits. This would not only benefit the foster children who are at the heart of this system but also their foster families who play a crucial role in providing a nurturing environment.

Therefore, we call upon relevant authorities in New York State to review and enhance the current training programs for conducting home visits within our foster care system. By doing so, we can better support our vulnerable children and dedicated families.
