The issue

Living in Buderim, QLD, my family and I treasure the open spaces and natural beauty it offers. Yet, I find myself disappointed every time my kids express the desire to enjoy a safe, nearby cycling track, only to realize the nearest one is too far to walk or ride. As a parent, it's a struggle to find local recreational facilities that promote active, healthy lifestyles for children who are older then four years of age. This extends beyond my family, impacting countless others in our community who lack access to safe and convenient recreational areas.

One area with untapped potential is The Woods Park in North Buderim. This park, while already loved, lacks critical infrastructure that would benefit our community immensely. A key introduction that could transform this space is the construction of a pump track. This facility would offer a designated, secure environment for kids and adults alike to improve their cycling skills, get active, and connect socially within the community.

It's not just about play. Visits to the park have highlighted the accessibility challenges faced by parents with prams and those using mobility aids. These challenges turn a delightful day out into a difficult experience. Improving pathways for better accessibility, adding seating, and creating inclusive design solutions are measures that will ensure everyone can enjoy The Woods Park.

Moreover, enhancing this park will see far-reaching benefits: increased safety, stronger community bonds, healthier living spaces, and heightened natural appreciation. Communities thrive when their public spaces are geared towards inclusivity and activity.

We urge the Sunshine Coast Council to prioritise these essential improvements. By investing in a pump track, accessible pathways, and inclusive facilities, they have the opportunity to create a landmark space that celebrates our community's active lifestyle and commitment to inclusivity.
