On the 11th of October, three teens were horrifically attacked and stabbed at Westfield Doncaster, a traumatic event that shook our faith in the safety of our children at these malls. As a parent, I feared for my son, who was also pursued by these hoodlums. He narrowly escaped, managing to find refuge in a store within the mall. This incident makes it clear that the current state of security at Westfield malls is insufficient. 

Alarmingly, this incident is not isolated and similar and worse attacks have happened at other Westfield malls. In April 2024 there was the shocking event at Westfield Bondi Junction where 6 people were killed and 12 injured. In May this year a woman was stabbed outside Westfield Fountain Gate. In June a fight broke out at the Westgate Marion. This escalating threat has left many shoppers, particularly parents, uneasy about the safety of our loved ones.

In response to this, we call upon Westfield to bolster security measures to ensure the safety of its patrons. We propose the installation of metal detectors at all entrance points, and the provision of improved security equipment and training to the guards on duty. This would act as a deterrent for those intending to bring weapons into these malls, and better equip guards to deal with potential threats. 

We must prioritize the safety of shoppers and prevent further incidents of violent crime. Every person has the right to feel secure while carrying out their everyday activities. It's time for Westfield to act. We request your signature in support of these enhanced security measures at Westfield malls.
