The Issue

My sister, a human being like all of us, is an inmate in the Lowell correctional facility. Her present experience doesn't align with the fundamental rights every individual should be accorded; she is being treated akin to an animal. Our family feels powerless and anguished, especially as statute768.28 title XLV limits our options to ensure her safety. This, however, is not just about one person or one family. This predicament extends to the wider inmate population nationwide.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has reported numerous incidents of inmate mistreatment across US prisons. Such systemic issues undermine the inherent human dignity and rehabilitation opportunities that justice systems throughout the world should uphold.

Inadequate safety measures, poor living conditions, and unprofessional conduct among some prison staff members are not isolated incidents. They represent a persistent and pervasive issue, impacting thousands of families like ours every day. Through this petition, we urge policy makers and prison administrators to intensify efforts to protect inmates' rights, improve living conditions, and foster a culture of respect. By doing so, we can ensure a fair, humane, and effective correctional system.

It's time for concrete action. Please, sign this petition to advocate for enhanced safety measures for inmates in correctional facilities. Honor our shared humanity, dignity, and belief in redemption for all. Together, let's instigate a change that prioritizes justice, fairness, and the fundamental human rights of all inmates.
