The Issue

On Monday, November 3, 2025, a tragic incident of gun violence occurred on the SUNY Morrisville campus, leaving families and students shaken. As a concerned parent, I share in the distress and fear that many in our community are feeling in the wake of this event. Our children deserve to learn in an environment where their safety is guaranteed, and it's imperative that we take immediate action to prevent such incidents from happening again.

SUNY Morrisville is an integral part of our community, a place where the future leaders of our society come to learn and grow. The safety of everyone on campus is paramount, and current measures need to be reassessed and reinforced to reflect the growing challenges of today’s world.

We are calling for the following actions to be implemented as soon as possible:

1. **Increased Campus Security**:

Introduction of more trained personnel to monitor campus activity and respond to incidents promptly.

2. **Advanced Surveillance Systems**:

Installation of state-of-the-art surveillance cameras throughout the campus to provide real-time monitoring.

3. **Emergency Response Training**:

Mandatory safety drills and training for students, faculty, and staff to better prepare them in case of an emergency.

4. **Communication Enhancements**:

Establish a robust alert system to ensure efficient and timely communication with all parties during emergencies.

These actions are not just about taking precautions; they are about creating a community and an educational environment wherein safety is assured. We owe it to our children, to the faculty, and to ourselves to foster a secure setting that promotes learning and growth without fear.

We urge the administration of SUNY Morrisville, local authorities, and everyone with a stake in the safety of our students to prioritize these measures. Your signature on this petition is a step toward securing the future safety of SUNY Morrisville. Let us unite to make our campus a safer place for all. Please sign and support our cause today.
