Enhance Road Safety for the Glen Innes Preschool

Enhance Road Safety for the Glen Innes Preschool
The issue
It's imperative to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children near Glen Innes Preschool and local school, in particular Wentworth Street and Coronation Avenue, areas that have seen a significant increase in traffic-related concerns. With heavy traffic, speeding vehicles, and inadequate pedestrian crossings, this area endangers the safety of those who should feel most protected
The safety of our children and community should never be compromised.
We urge the Glen Innes Severn Council to take immediate action to implement comprehensive safety measures. Proposed interventions include but are not limited to:
1. Traffic Calming Devices such as implement speed humps, road narrowing or rumble strips to naturally reduce vehicle speed.
2. Enhanced Signage and Visual Traffic Monitoring such as install clear and prominent signage indicating school zones, and consider the use of digital speed displays to encourage adherence to speed limits.
3. Physical Barriers such as consider the installation of bollards or other physical barriers to protect our children by segregating sensitive areas from traffic zones effectively.
4. Regular Traffic Patrols such as increase the presence of traffic patrols in these areas.
These measures can substantially decrease the likelihood of accidents and contribute to a safe environment for our children, ensuring peace of mind for parents and the local community. With effective, targeted interventions, we can foster a safer experience for students, teachers, and residents.
Safety in school zones is a reflection of the community's commitment to safeguarding its young and fostering an environment conducive to their development and growth.
Studies have shown that areas with implemented traffic calming measures see a significant reduction in accidents. For instance, the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Communications reported a noticeable decrease in vehicle collisions in zones where speed control methods were applied. This underscores the urgent need for immediate action in Glen Innes, to ensure our school zones are fit for purpose.
Join us in urging the Glen Innes Severn Council to prioritise these necessary safety improvements.
Sign this petition to demand immediate action and ensure that roads around Glen Innes Preschool and Glen Innes West Public School are made safe for everyone. Your support can help prevent future tragedies and foster a secure learning environment for our community's future generations.
