For us, the residents of Botany, Pagewood, Eastgardens, Maroubra, Mascot, and La Perouse, the typical day starts with an arduous commute into the city. With buses not going fully into the city, we are often compelled to change buses or catch a train for reaching our inner city destinations. This has not only increased the travel time, but also the cost for us. It is not uncommon for us to spend 1-1.5 hours for traveling the 12km distance.

But that's not how it should be. Convenient and affordable public transportation is a basic civic right which is being denied to us. Improving transport services is not just right, it's necessary. After all, increased public transportation can lower transportation costs, improve the air quality, and reduce the overall demand for petroleum. Furthermore, well-structured public transportation can save approximately 865 million hours in travel time and 450 million gallons of fuel annually in 498 urban areas (APTA, 2019).

Our demand is simple and justified. We ask for enhanced public transportation in our area, starting by direct buses that go fully into the city, thereby decreasing our travel time and cost. Please join us in urging the local government and transportation authorities to action.
