Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the tragic loss of a beloved member of our 4th-grade class, who was struck and killed by a speeding vehicle on Hwy 78 in Loganville, Georgia. We, the students of Mrs. McCain's 4th grade class, feel we must ensure that this tragic event leads to positive change, preventing future incidents.

Hwy 78 runs right through the heart of our community and is frequented by pedestrians, including children, families, and seniors. It's current state presents multiple hazards for anyone on foot. This highway lacks adequate pedestrian crossings, clear visibility, and speed control measures, making it exceedingly dangerous for local residents.

Statistics from the Georgia Department of Transportation reveal that pedestrian accidents on highways are not uncommon, and areas with proper safety measures such as speed humps, pedestrian signals, and crosswalks experience significantly lower accident rates. This data highlights the urgent necessity to enhance road safety measures on Hwy 78.

We propose implementing the following actionable solutions to make Hwy 78 safer for everyone:

• Clearly marked and well-lit pedestrian sidewalks and crossings.               - Regular speed monitoring and enforcement by law enforcement agencies.
  - Improved signage to alert drivers to pedestrian zones.
