The Issue

As a corpsmember of the California Conservation Corps (CCC) stationed at Delta Center, Stockton, I feel the urgent need to address a significant issue affecting our daily lives and overall well-being—our meal quality and portion sizes.
Every day, we undertake physically demanding tasks, especially those of us on the fire crews, which require substantial energy and stamina. However, the current meal provisions neither meet our nutritional needs nor replenish the energy expended during our rigorous work. Many of us, including myself, have expressed that the portion sizes are insufficient and the quality of food provided does not fulfill the nutritional requirements essential for sustaining the high levels of physical and mental engagement required by our duties.
Revamping the meal services at Delta Center is not an extravagant ask, but a necessary adjustment ensuring healthier, more efficient CCC members. Providing ample, high-quality food is crucial to preserving our health, morale, and overall performance. A diet that includes balanced portions with fresh ingredients will enhance the CCC members' ability to perform their duties efficiently and safely.
Statistics show that proper nutrition is critical for both physical and mental well-being. According to health guidelines, adults engaging in physically demanding activities often require additional calories and nutrients to maintain their health and energy levels. The National Institute of Health underscores that inadequate nutrition can lead to fatigue, decreased concentration, and increased vulnerability to illness—all of which can severely impact our ability to meet the CCC's goals.
A feasible solution is to collaborate with local suppliers to ensure fresh, nutritious ingredients are delivered, and to increase the meal portion sizes appropriately. It is vital that those who can make decisive changes recognize the importance of this issue for corpsmembers' health and performance.
Sign this petition to urge CCC administrators and relevant authorities to prioritize enhancing food quality and portion sizes for everyone at the Delta Center. Let us work together to ensure our health and well-being are never compromised in our line of duty.
