Cars frequently make illegal turns at 256 Street and Mosholu Ave during the hours of 7am - 9:30 am during school days, blatantly ignoring the 'no turning' signs. On several occasions, such reckless driving has nearly resulted in accidents. As a mother walking my young child to Pre-K at Riverdale Neighborhood House, I encounter this road safety nightmare every day. 

This situation is painfully reminiscent of a traumatic experience I encountered six years ago while living in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. At that time, my son and I were struck by a tow truck that disregarded the crossing guard. Thankfully we walked away with minor injuries but I don't relish the thought of reliving this experience with my daughter. 

256 Street and Mosholu Ave is a hazardous corner hotspot for preventable accidents, disproportionately so during school days when parents and children are on the move. Strict and immediate enforcement of the traffic rules here is not just essential - it's lifesaving. Our children's lives and our community's safety are at stake.
