Enforce towing in 383 zones during Cubs games
Enforce towing in 383 zones during Cubs games
The Issue
In Chicago, Cubs home games are an exciting and iconic part of Summer. But for those of us residing near Wrigley Field, the experience is frequently made frustrating by the chaos caused by illegal parking in 383 zones. These zones are supposed to be kept clear for residents and other essential purposes on game days, yet they become overrun with vehicles parked illegally by game attendees.
The City of Chicago acknowledges the issue and has signs posted stating "Cubs’ Night Game Tow Zone 5-10 pm." This aims to bring fairness to local residents who need available and accessible spaces. But, even as the sign threatens towing, individuals are merely given tickets. These tickets don’t mitigate the parking congestion and instead, they encourage it. Patrons see these fines as a simple cost of parking, which is often cheaper or comparable to the fees of the privately owned parking lots nearby.
It’s essential that we shift from ticketing to the more effective and deterrent practice of towing. By enforcing the towing of illegally parked cars in these zones, we reinforce the original purpose of the restrictions and ensure these spaces serve their intended function. This opens up space right away for residents to park and makes it less likely that people will repeat the offense. This promoted community respect and ensuring that local regulations are recognized and enforced effectively and fairly!
The Cubs play over 80 home games every year. This means over 80 days when the local community experiences increased traffic and parking infractions. A stricter towing policy would alleviate oversaturated parking and also encourage people to pay local parking businesses and parking lots for legal parking out of the way of residents.
Stand with me to urge the City of Chicago to enforce towing regulations in the 383 zones during Cubs home games. Thank you for reading.
