The Dominican Ministry of Tourism answered one of the supporters of the protest: “Hola Simone S., estamos muy apenados, condenamos firmemente prácticas como esa , y muy de acuerdo contigo, afecta nuestra imagen como país, ya el director de Salud Pública de San Pedro de Macorís está trabajando en conjunto con las demás autoridades correspondientes a ese respecto. Gracias por hacernos llegar tus inquietudes.” Translation: “We are very saddened by this and strictly condemn practices like these. We agree with you that this damages the image of our country. The director of Public Health from San Pedro de Macoris is working together with the corresponding authorities on this case. We thank you for letting us know your concern.” We are working on the answer. Please don’t underestimate this reaction, even in the case that the offenders should not be caught and punished! Since 2013 TOURISM & ANIMAL WELFARE works towards changing the public awareness about the situation in Caribbean holiday paradises, the awareness of tourists, the tourist industry and the governments. We have achieved a lot during the 4 years running period of our petition https://www.change.org/p/no-more-poisoned-and-abused-dogs-and-cats-at-hotels-beaches-and-in-communities-of-the-caribbean but much more still remains to be done! The principle of our work remains the same: “Tourism as the essential factor of Caribbean economy means hope and a chance for a better future for poor animals because tourists have the power and the possibility to take action!” The statement of the Dominican Ministry of Tourism “We are aware that this damages the image of our country.” proves that we are right! We have to continue to work on this consistently! The goal hasn’t been reached yet! Please keep supporting us in the years to come! We will keep you updated about this case.
