Consumer privacy has become more vulnerable with increasing digitalization, making the protection of personal information crucial. While progressive states like California have developed comprehensive privacy laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act to shield their residents, Arizona lacks similar protective measures. As Arizonians, we urgently call on our legislators to enact consumer privacy laws equal or superior to those represented in progressive states like California.

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, as of 2021, at least 26 states and Puerto Rico introduced or considered bills pertaining to data privacy. Arizona, however, was not among them (National Conference of State Legislatures, 2021). This lack of action exposes Arizonians to various risks, including identity theft and privacy invasion. Enforcing robust privacy laws will ensure our personal data is treated with the respect and protection it deserves.

This petition seeks not only to preserve the rights of Arizonians but also to encourage a nationwide effort to prioritize consumer privacy, regardless of the state.
