Enforce Stricter Laws Against Animal Abandonment in Pennsylvania

The Issue

These innocent animals trust us to provide their basic necessities- food, water, and shelter, and in return, offer us unreserved love. Despite this, countless dogs are cruelly 'dumped' and left to defend themselves. This situation not only shocks our collective conscience but also calls for immediate action.

In Pennsylvania, we bear witness to a tragic reality - our beloved Huskies and many other dogs being abandoned heartlessly. This flagrant disregard for animal welfare must stop now. We need new and stricter laws to ensure that abandoning dogs, leaving them to fend for themselves, is treated with the severity it undoubtedly warrants - as an automatic felony with requisite jail time. Furthermore, those found guilty should be permanently banned from owning any animals in order to prevent any potential future animal suffering.

Additionally, to ensure the immediate safety of these abandoned creatures, dog wardens should be allowed immediate access to safe shelter. This is a crucial step towards providing timely aid and protection to these faithful animals.

In 2017, as per Pennsylvania's Libre Law, animal abuse was made a felony, carrying fines and imprisonment penalties. However, the current situation suggests that this is insufficient. [3] The shocking statistics from the Humane Society stating that nearly 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters every year, many of them reportedly abandoned, is a testament to this stark reality.

We urgently seek the support of the Pennsylvania Legislature and the Governor to enact stricter laws that honor all dogs who have devastatingly suffered abandonment. Let us not fail these loyal companions who only pledge themselves to our happiness.
