I pen this petition from a personal place of hardship and frustration. My family and I have experienced firsthand the anguish and stress caused by illegal squatters. They broke into our home, took residence without permission, damaged our basement, stole valued belongings, and even ruined our heating system. Despite the drastic invasion on our property and personal life, we faced enormous hurdles and stress getting them out legally due to the current squatter laws in place - it is simply not right that we had to go through the stressful process of eviction for unlawful trespassers.

Squatter rights have long been a contentious issue, placing an undue burden on legal owners of properties. The National Low-Income Housing Association estimates that, in cities across the country, numerous homeowners face similar predicaments. People like us are subjected to unnecessary struggles due to the leniency of the law towards illegal squatters.

It's time our voice is heard, both for those who have experienced this before and to prevent any future homeowners from going through these traumatic experiences. And so, I appeal to lawmakers to review and improve legislation against squatter rights, making homeowners' rights the priority in these situations.
