I am a resident of East Hampton, NY and recently experienced a horrifying incident that has left me deeply traumatized. My beloved cat was brutally tortured by my neighbor. She was trapped in a cage and waterboarded while being filmed as he callously sprayed her with a hose for 3 agonizing minutes straight.

This is not just about my cat. This is about all animals who are victims of such heinous acts. Animal abuse is not only morally repugnant but also illegal under New York State law which prohibits the torture and unjustifiable injury to animals (New York Agriculture & Markets Law § 353). Yet, it seems these laws are not enforced effectively enough to deter such horrific actions.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), nearly 1 million animals are abused or killed each year in cases involving domestic violence alone. This statistic does not even account for individual acts of cruelty inflicted upon innocent creatures like my cat.

We demand that local authorities in East Hampton enforce stricter implementation of animal abuse laws and ensure justice for all our furry friends who cannot speak up for themselves. We urge our community leaders to take immediate action against those who violate these laws without mercy or remorse.
