The Issue
As a life-long taxpayer, I'm fed up with funding the lavish lifestyles of politicians while millions of us in the working class struggle monthly just to get by. Politicians live comfortably and make empty promises, while we face the burdens of financial insecurity. We need representatives who truly understand and live the experiences of the average American.
It's high time we demand a complete overhaul of the eligibility criteria for those who wish to serve as public officeholders in the United States. We call for stringent requirements where Presidents, Congressmen, and Senators are mandated to be free of any drug or alcohol records and must undergo comprehensive criminal background checks. No individual with a criminal history should hold any public office, ensuring integrity and trust in leadership roles.
Additionally, age should be considered to infuse fresh perspectives and innovative approaches in governance. Thus, we propose limiting the age for anyone to hold the office of President, Senator, or Congressman to 65 years, fostering generational diversity in decision-making.
The political landscape needs to reflect term limits to curb the entrenchment of power and ensure responsiveness and accountability. Therefore, establishing term limits of a maximum of 4 years for Congressional and Senate terms will promote healthy democratic rotations and rejuvenation of ideas.
Furthermore, to prevent career politicians from exploiting their positions, we must cap their annual salaries to $80,000, aligning them closer with the median American income. This is a reasonable amount that is fair and forces politicians to experience the financial realities most Americans face.
By enforcing these guidelines, we can ensure that our representatives live with integrity, fairness, and in touch with the everyday citizen’s struggles. It's time for the government to be a reflection of its people—as realistic, honest, and accountable.
