Enforce Speed Limit & Prohibit Engine Braking on Hoes Lane, Piscataway Township

Enforce Speed Limit & Prohibit Engine Braking on Hoes Lane, Piscataway Township
The Issue
As a musician regularly recording music from home, I have been grappling with frequent disruptions due to excessive noise from nearby Hoes Lane. Speeding vehicles and semi-trucks employing engine braking on Hoes Lane (Route 18) between Buckingham Drive and Centennial Avenue have become the constant, unwelcome background noise of our lives. The intrusion is not limited to normal work hours, even peaceful nights are disturbed with sounds of engine braking awakening my wife and me. Speed limits and quiet hours are not a suggestion but a rule we must all respect to ensure a peaceful neighborhood.
Unnecessary noise pollution affects not only my livelihood but also the quality of life of many others residing in this area. Noise pollution has been scientifically associated with several health issues; among them, stress-related illnesses, high blood pressure, speech interference, and hearing loss are quite common (source: WHO). Enforcement of the existing speed limit of 40 mph and placing signs discouraging truckers from using engine braking could significantly reduce this issue. This is not a plea only for myself but for everyone affected by these disturbances, seeking a peaceful neighborhood conducive to our various life pursuits.
We must act now if we want to reclaim the tranquility of our homes and community. Please sign this petition urging Piscataway Township to address this issue. Your support will mean quieter days and nights for us all. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our call to action.
