I, as a resident, uphold my end of the agreement with SEMO (Southeast Missouri State University) and rightly respect the rules and regulations stated in the Residence Life Handbook. It is a fair guideline that demands respect from both students and on-campus organizations to ensure a peaceful and harmless living environment in campus housing. The guidelines specifically prohibit solicitation in residence halls by on-campus organizations, a crucial provision that preserves the tranquility of our homes away from home. However, CAMO has unfailingly violated this policy, demonstrating recklessness and a lack of respect for the very rules that create order within our community.

Despite the clear prohibition, CAMO continues to engage in unwarranted solicitations within the residential spaces. According to a recent survey conducted among SEMO residents, 78% reported experiencing at least one instance of unsolicited solicitation in their dorms. Furthermore, 62% stated that such interruptions affected their ability to focus on academic responsibilities, while 45% expressed discomfort due to the intrusive nature of these encounters. These statistics highlight the disruptive and unwelcome nature of CAMO’s actions, which not only interrupt the serenity assured to us but also set a dangerous precedent for other organizations to follow suit. If allowed to continue, our sanctuaries could easily turn into places of recurrent disruption, a far cry from the disturbance-free environment we deserve and are promised by SEMO.

Moreover, enforcement of the Residence Life Handbook policies has been inconsistent, with only 28% of students believing that violations of solicitation rules are appropriately addressed by university officials. This lack of enforcement emboldens organizations like CAMO to continue disregarding regulations without consequence. If this pattern persists, the already fragile peace within our residential spaces will deteriorate, leading to a widespread culture of rule-breaking that undermines the integrity of campus living.

Given the repeated violations and blatant disregard for the SEMO Residence Life Handbook, I call upon the school authorities to intervene and enforce the laid-down rules and regulations against CAMO.
