Enforce PWD-Friendly Designs and Wheelchair Access in All Public Buildings

Enforce PWD-Friendly Designs and Wheelchair Access in All Public Buildings
The Issue
My grandparents, like many others, face significant challenges when navigating public spaces, especially schools and malls in our communities. The simple act of walking becomes a struggle due to the lack of PWD-friendly designs and access to wheelchairs. This is not just their story but the daily reality of roughly 1.4 million or 1.57% of the Philippines' population who have some form of disability (DOLE ILS Official, 2021). These difficulties shows the urgent need to adapt our public spaces to be more inclusive.
Public buildings should make it a priority to cater to everyone, including people with disabilities. Such measures include installing ramps, elevators, providing wheelchair access, ensuring good lighting, and signage, making these spaces more accessible. By doing this, we not only improve the quality of life of our disabled citizens, but we also foster inclusivity which should be prioritized by our society.
It's time for our malls, parks, libraries, schools, and institutions to become more aware of this issue and take action to build a more friendly environment for our cherished PWD community.
Change needs to happen, and it starts with this petition. Let's make our public buildings accessible to all, not just those who can walk without difficulty. Sign this petition today, to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and included in our society!
