Enforce Maine's Anti-Bullying Law in Aroostook County School Districts

The Issue

My son, a student within the Caribou school district, has been a victim of severe bullying. This is not an isolated incident but part of a larger issue that plagues our schools. Despite the State of Maine having an anti-bullying law in place, it appears to be inadequately enforced within our school districts.

In Aroostook County alone, numerous cases have been reported where students suffer from repeated bullying with little to no consequences for the perpetrators. This lack of enforcement not only violates state law but also puts our children's mental and physical wellbeing at risk.

According to StopBullying.gov, students who experience bullying are at increased risk for poor school adjustment, sleep difficulties, anxiety, and depression (U.S Department of Health & Human Services). Our children deserve better; they deserve safe learning environments where they can thrive without fear.

We urge the Aroostook County School Districts to strictly enforce Maine's anti-bullying law and ensure appropriate consequences for repeat offenders. It is time we prioritize our children's safety over complacency or convenience. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating safer schools for all students in Caribou and beyond.
