The Issue

This week has been devastating. I’ve lost not one, not two, but three beloved animals in just eight days. These weren’t just pets; they were family. Losing them has left a hole in my heart, and I know many of you can relate. It’s tragic and infuriating that we live in a world where animal abuse is still prevalent and not enough is being done to stop it.

2 out of the 3 animals I have lost were victims of horrific abuse. Juniper, a crested gecko pulled from a hoarding situation, was only with me for 2 days carrying an on-going infection that had been left untreated by previous owners. In order for him to survive, he needed amputation. With how weak he was and his age, it would’ve been inhumane to amputate his leg so we decided it was in his best interest to euthanize. The infection was so strong I could smell it. He was left to rot in filthy conditions for months before he was surrendered to our rescue. He would have been fine if the infection was treated when it first started, but instead it was left to spread uncontrollably therefore turning into necrosis.

I lost another animal 4 days later, a leopard gecko named Mr Bonks. I was his 4th home, he was 16. Mr Bonks was incredibly deformed and permanently disabled. Suffering from blindness, severe vitamin deficiency, and MBD (metabolic bone disease). These things are irreversible, leading to his poor body condition that no amount of rehabilitation could fix. He was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. If his previous homes hadn’t

Every day, countless animals suffer in silence. They depend on us for protection and care, but without stronger laws, we’re failing them. Current regulations are simply not sufficient to deter or penalize those who harm animals. This is not just about punishment—it's about prevention. We need laws that will protect animals and prevent abuse before it happens. It’s time to stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.

We need our lawmakers to hear us loud and clear: animal abuse must not go unchecked. Stronger laws won’t just punish the abusers—they’ll send a message that our society will not tolerate cruelty. These measures can ensure that abusers are held accountable and help rescue innocent animals from dangerous situations.

With your support, we can push for legislative change that demands better protection for our animals. Let’s fight for stricter rules, harsher penalties, and a future where all animals can thrive without fear.

Sign this petition to urge our leaders to enforce stronger laws against animal abuse. Together, we can make the difference that our animals desperately need.
