Enforce Fair Moderation and Honor Freedom of Speech on Reddit

The Issue

As an active Reddit user, I visit the platform to engage in meaningful conversations, acquire new knowledge, and share my ideas with a diverse population. However, my experience and, indeed, the experiences of many other users is increasingly marred by discriminatory moderation. Reddit's own policies against hateful speech and harassment are being used unjustifiably to restrict the free expression of differing opinions, in stark contrast to the essence of the platform.

Reddit, as one of the largest internet communities with over 50 million daily active users from different walks of life and perspectives, is an incredibly influential platform (source: Reddit's official Statistics, 2021). There is a pressing need for this potential for global impact to be harnessed in a respectful and unbiased manner. The wrongful banning of accounts based on personal views not only tarnishes the reputation of this platform, but it also infringes on our constitutional right to freedom of speech and our civil rights.

We urge Reddit to uphold its responsibility towards fair moderation that promotes respectful, unfettered exchanges of viewpoints. Simply having a contrasting perspective should never be grounds for wrongful account bans that contravene Reddit's official policy and our fundamental human rights. The spirit of open conversation that Reddit was built upon should be preserved, and false allegations of hate speech and harassment must be thoroughly investigated to prevent misuse of policy.

Enforce justice in moderation, protect our rights, and return Reddit to all of us. We implore users, advocates of freedom of speech, and all who value fair and open discussions to sign this petition. Together, we can redefine the moderation landscape and respect the diversity of Reddit and its users. Sign this petition today.
