Enforce Equal Penalties for Dog-on-Dog Attacks

Enforce Equal Penalties for Dog-on-Dog Attacks
The Issue
Our 2 and a half year old cocker spaniel Hugo was staying with a licensed dog boarder whilst we were on our honeymoon. On the 4th day, we received the worst call we could imagine: another dog had broken out of the cage it was placed in and had attacked our boy, killing him. When speaking with the police, we were essentially told that dog-on-dog isn't a crime, and nothing more will be done about this incident involving a dog that has already fatally attacked.
This is a devastating reality for pet owners, and it's time for things to change. Dogs are often seen as members of the family by their owners, and the pain of losing a pet to an attack is unbearable. The lack of accountability for such incidents shows a significant gap in our legal system that needs to be addressed immediately.
Dogs that have already demonstrated violent behavior should be subject to more stringent regulations and consequences. Much like human assault cases, each attack should be investigated thoroughly, and owners of aggressive dogs must be held accountable. Mandatory training for aggressive dogs and proper containment practices needs to be enforced by law, and repeat offenders should face fines or penalties.
It's time for our laws to reflect the severity of these incidents. Equal enforcement of laws on dog-on-dog attacks as we have on dog-on-human attacks is essential not only for justice but also for the prevention of future tragedies. In this way, we ensure a safer environment for all dogs and their owners.
Please sign this petition to demand justice for pets like Hugo, to enforce equal penalties, and to protect our beloved companions from such tragedies.
