Enforce Airport Badges for Rideshare Drivers at Utah's Airports

Enforce Airport Badges for Rideshare Drivers at Utah's Airports
The Issue
Currently, Utah law does not allow local governments to regulate rideshare services. Nonetheless, an exception exists for airports, which allows them to exercise control. Yet, Salt Lake City (SLC) airport ground transportation feels it lacks this power to enforce regulations.
The problem lies in the lack of a requirement for Transportation Network Companies (TNC) drivers to possess an airport badge when operating at airports. This lack creates a safety concern and regulatory discrepancy as other transportation staff are typically required to have such identifying documentation.
According to the National Institute of Justice, having professional identification such as an airport badge can help increase security and decrease criminal activities, providing a safer environment. Not requiring TNC drivers to have this badge means potentially foregoing these benefits, compromising airport security and traveler safety.
To create a fair and secure transportation ecosystem at Utah's airports, we advocate for the enforcement of an airport badge rule for TNC drivers. By doing this, we are showing commitment toward public safety and a fair operation ground for all transportation services within the airports.
Please support this petition to demand that all TNC drivers operating in Utah's Airports obtain and display an airport badge, contributing to better accountability, safety, and security for everyone.
