Hi! I'm a Middle School student here in Lennox, South Dakota, and I'm really worried about a potential problem that could affect our home and our planet. Recently, there has been a proposal to build a data center right here in Lennox. At first, it might sound like a cool project. However, I’ve learned that data centers can have a huge impact on water resources, which is already a global issue.

Lennox is a small community, but we are not immune to the challenges that data centers bring. These facilities require massive amounts of water for cooling systems, especially in larger installations. With the current climate crisis, our water resources are more precious than ever, and we can't afford to misuse them. We've read reports from reputable sources mentioning how regions with dense data centers face water scarcity issues, and we don't want that to happen here.

Furthermore, Lennox’s infrastructure may not even be ready for this level of demand. Implementing a moratorium would allow city officials and residents, like myself, to thoroughly understand and evaluate the environmental implications of the data center. This time will also provide an opportunity to explore alternative solutions that balance technological advancement with environmental preservation.

A mandatory moratorium is a sensible and necessary action at this point. It prevents hasty decisions that could harm our ecosystem, while still allowing room for innovation and growth once we’re adequately prepared. Data centers should be part of our future, but only when they are sustainable and safe for our environment.
