Dear Supporters 1) “Don’t let developers overturn the proposed protection for the Green Belt in London”. The Draft London Plan is out for consultation until 2nd March 2018 – your help is needed. https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/planning/london-plan/new-london-plan You are probably aware that the draft London Plan currently proposes a firm commitment to protecting the Green Belt and Metropolitan Open Land. What is also clear from the Press and consultation events that we and others have attended is that a number of large developers and powerful institutions are extremely unhappy with the proposed protection. They argue that the Green Belt is an outdated concept and without the easier building on Green Belt housing needs cannot be met. They are likely to engage in some serious lobbying of the Mayor and politicians. This is where we need your help in supporting the proposed protections. Both the Campaign for Protection of Rural England (CPRE) and London Green Belt Council (LGBC) have provided evidence to the contrary and we would invite you to read the latest CPRE London Plan issue giving a broad analysis of the draft plan before making your comments. We will also publish any other analysis on our website as and when we receive it. Cprelondon-special-london-plan-issue Commenting online is easy! Policies for the Protection of Green Belt and Metropolitan Open Land are primarily contained under Chapter 8 -Green infrastructure and natural environment. We are aware of the increasing rise to the number of threats to Green Belt throughout the UK. This is despite commitments from all main parties as to protection and the mounting tide of evidence as to Brown Field site availability. Policies on the use of Green Belt are formed both at Government, Regional and Local level, so we are also taking this opportunity of adding the following to our list of addressees of this petition: Sajid Javid MP Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government; Dominic Raab MP Minister of State for Housing at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government; Damian Hinds MP Secretary of State for Education; and Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London. Thank you for your continued support. TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER
