100% Brownout-Free Occidental Mindoro
Jul 21, 2015
On March 3, 2015 the first province - wide social media campaign and online petition against brownout in Occidental Mindoro were both launched. Armed only with great dreams of a brighter and brownout free Oksi, coupled with a large dose of faith and immense hope for the future, three women dared to start the ‪#‎wantedilaw‬ petition addressed to Department of Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla. Thankfully concerned citizens/ netizens from all over the world, sympathetic netizens, social movements, and e-groups (SOME Inc., SOB, TSJK, 2020, UNLAD, Samakasamin) and kind-hearted media people from the newspapers and the radio heard our plea to address the 6-12 hour daily blackouts suffered by our province for 17 years and helped us reach the DOE. We are humbled by their enormous support. So, a few days shy of our fourth monthsary, or on June 30, 2015, for the first time in the history of our province, a DOE secretary personally visited us to address our brownout problem because he was summoned by ordinary people like us, all 5,198 petition signers. To the 5,198 petition signers, maraming, maraming salamat! We will be closing the petition soon pero tuloy po ang laban natin!
