Ending the Unfair Financial Burden on Those with Mental Health, Autism & ADHD

The Issue

A Matter of Equality and Dignity

Purpose: We are calling on the UK government to provide free NHS prescriptions for individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions, Autism, and ADHD. Currently, those suffering from these conditions must pay for their essential medications, while others with physical health issues like epilepsy receive free prescriptions. This unfair disparity is causing significant financial hardship and preventing many from accessing the treatments they need to manage their conditions and improve their quality of life.

Emotional Appeal: Mental health, Autism, and ADHD are often overlooked and stigmatized, leading to immense challenges in accessing care and treatment. Many individuals struggle to afford the constant, rising costs of their necessary medications, forcing them to make impossible choices between their health and other basic needs. This is a matter of equality, dignity, and ensuring those facing mental health and neurodevelopmental challenges can live with the support they require.

Evidence: Studies show that the UK’s mental healthcare system is severely underfunded and overburdened, with long wait times and limited resources. This disproportionately impacts those with mental health conditions, Autism, and ADHD, who often face discrimination, lack of understanding, and difficulty accessing the treatments they need. The British Medical Association has even spoken out about the failing state of the country’s mental healthcare system.

Call to Action: By signing this petition, you are demanding that the UK government take immediate action to provide free NHS prescriptions for individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions, Autism, and ADHD. This is a matter of basic human rights and healthcare equity. Together, we can break down the barriers preventing those in need from accessing the essential medications that allow them to manage their conditions and live with dignity.
