End Youtube Animal Cruelty
The Issue
Team Youtube, please create guidelines that protect animals by having the option to report "animal abuse/animal cruelty.' Furthermore, please make sure to terminate any channels displaying such behavior through their content and ban them from benefitting from something unethical and illegal across several states and countries.
It is no secret that Youtube content creators can earn advertisement revenue through high view rates. Though this has been a massive benefit to independent, genuine animal rescuers and nonprofit organizations, some have spotted the apparent trend of fake rescue and animal abuse channels gaining views.
These cruel and heart-wrenching videos consist of animals being physically harmed or put in dangerous situations. Often, this is to stage a fake rescue to seem like heroes. This is not only causing these cognitive, intelligent beings to be traumatized but also allows such behavior to go unnoticed while monsters are subjecting defenseless beings to harm gain views and possibly monetary compensation. Therefore, it is harmful to actual animal rescuers and allows the victimizers to thrive, all because Youtube refuses to create guidelines prohibiting such channels from staying on the webpage.
Youtube has yet to have an "animal abuse/animal cruelty" option on the video report options or user report options. Rightfully, there is a report option protecting other groups from violence, such as children. A single act of severe behavior such as pornography can get an account terminated permanently as well. With that, I'd like to ask Youtube to please create report options for animal cruelty and abuse, as this should be considered just as serious of an offense as pornography. Though there is a "violent or repulsive content" tab under the flagging option, it would be easier for youtube to recognize the context of the abusive content if only it gave users the chance to report their concerns in a more direct way.
Additionally, animal abuse channels continue to be on the website, fooling those too distracted to notice the signs of a fake rescue or unethical treatment of animals. In March of 2021, Youtube stated they would be working towards banning such repulsive content. As the year comes to an end, there is still a long way to go in order to make Youtube a safe space for the creatures we share our planet with.
Please help me reach Youtube CEO Susan Wojcicki with this petition!
Thank you.
