End Wapakoneta Tug Fest
The Issue

Every year, the Wapakoneta Tug Fest brings about an atmosphere of chaos that disrupts our home town. The festival, attended primarily by non-residents, poses serious issues that must prompt us to reconsider its impact on our community. From increased crime to environmental and noise pollution, the negatives heavily outweigh the positives, making it a pressing issue for those of us who cherish peace and security in Wapakoneta.
Crime is a concern throughout the festival. Reports indicate an increase in disorderly conduct, underage consumption, operating vehicles under the influence of drugs and alcohol, trespassing, theft, and even more severe offenses during Tug Fest. Law enforcement resources are stretched thin, diverting attention from other community needs and putting our safety at risk.
Environmental degradation is another major issue that comes hand in hand with the festival. Toxic clouds of exhaust hang in the air throughout the city and neighborhoods surrounding the festival making it miserable for residents to be outside. The fumes from the 2026 "Smoke Show" were so noxious, they even impacted indoor air quality, causing residents to feel ill for hours on end. The influx of people leads to an increase in litter which pollutes our neighborhoods, outdoor spaces, and waterways. Noise pollution is yet another factor that disturbs the tranquility we enjoy in our daily lives. The constant revving of engines, squealing tires, blaring music, and profane commentary over the loud speakers continues well past midnight every day of the festival, making it difficult for residents to sleep, or simply enjoy peace and quiet.
Despite the festival's promise of economic benefits, we must question whether these short-lived, so-called rewards are worth the damage and disruption inflicted on our community each year. We, as residents of Wapakoneta, have the right to live in a peaceful, safe, and clean environment. Instead of continuing to tolerate an event that trashes our community, we can work together to support festivals and community gatherings that attract desirable patronage, while maintaining the values and safety of our town.
I urge you to consider the points mentioned above and help bring back the peace and safety we all desire. Join me in calling for the end of the Wapakoneta Tug Fest by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference and reclaim our community's well-being.
