End Vehicle Fraud Now: Hold Fraudulent Sellers Accountable
The Issue
Vehicle fraud is harming families across Tennessee, Arkansas and other states leaving innocent buyers stuck with fake tags, mismatched VIN numbers, unsafe vehicles, and sellers who refuse to provide legal paperwork. These scams are not small mistakes, they are deliberate acts that put families at risk of police stops, citations, financial loss, and even criminal charges for documents they did not create. Private sellers are exploiting gaps in state oversight by issuing fraudulent temporary tags, refusing to sign required DMV agreements, and providing incorrect or altered bills of sale. When buyers try to register their vehicles, they discover the paperwork is invalid, and the seller disappears, refuses to cooperate, or threatens illegal repossession. Meanwhile, families are left without transportation, facing court dates, and unable to legally drive the vehicles they paid for. This issue is growing, and many victims have reported similar experiences with the same types of sellers. Without stronger consumer protection, enforcement, and accountability, more families will continue to be targeted, scammed, and left with vehicles they cannot legally use. We are calling for immediate action to end vehicle fraud now, to protect families, strengthen oversight, and hold fraudulent sellers accountable. No one should lose money, face legal trouble, or fear for their safety because of a dishonest private seller.
