The Issue

I had an apartment in the Fields of Rockville until they evicted my belongings on the street last week. This was not for non-payment, as I did not have an outstanding balance! They evicted my family on the street because I have spent the last 16 months complaining about the toxic black mold in my apartment, among other things like rodents, roaches, plumbing issues, maintenance issues, and ledger issues. In June of 2025, I found mold on a wall in my daughters bedroom; despite complaining to the complex, management company, and every government department I could find, they have been allowed to get away with not remediating properly. I filed rent escrow, but the judge refused to look at the proof, and ruled in favor of the complex. I even have an email from the management company saying that they will clean our belongings and help us relocate; instead they filed to evict us after I refused to sign a waiver of liability.

Another neighbor who's family was evicted on the street today for retaliation has faced persistent issues with my living conditions since I moved in. Shortly after my arrival, she was forced to transfer units due to a severe rodent infestation. Instead of permanent solutions, the management used ineffective measures like burlap pads and foam to patch holes, which did nothing to stop the mice from invading our home. She came home one day only to be given foam and told to fix the problem herself—how is this acceptable? Her child's safety is at risk; he was even bitten by a mouse, and his bed had to be thrown away because of contamination.

The negligence goes beyond rodents. Mold is growing in the vents and around my unit, cleaned superficial with kitchen degreasers—not the professional treatment required. The landlords dismiss these serious health hazards and instead offer eviction as a punishment for our voices. Despite repeated reports and complaints about these unsafe conditions, many families are now being evicted as retaliation. This is a blatant attempt to silence tenants who dare to speak up about their living environment.

This petition calls for an end to this unjust practice of eviction in retaliation for complaints at Fields of Rockville. Tenants should not live in fear of losing their homes for insisting on basic safety measures. We deserve to live in environments free from hazards and with the assurance that our rights will be respected.

Let's stand together to demand accountability from the property management and ensure they follow fair housing laws, providing adequate maintenance without retaliatory actions. Your signature will support us in pushing for fair treatment and safer living conditions for all residents. Sign the petition to make a change now.
