End Unjust Towing Practices in Low-Income Apartment Complexes

End Unjust Towing Practices in Low-Income Apartment Complexes
The Issue
My daughter resides in a low-income apartment complex in Cleveland, Tennessee. Whenever I visit her, I am met with the harsh reality of having my car towed away simply because I backed into a parking space or because there are no designated parking areas for non-residents. This is not only an inconvenience but also an unnecessary financial burden on those who can least afford it.
This issue isn't isolated to just us; many residents and visitors alike have fallen victim to this unjust practice. The lack of clear signage or assigned parking numbers exacerbates the problem, leaving people unaware of where they can safely park their vehicles without fear of being towed.
In 2019 alone, over 1 million cars were towed in the United States from private property without the owner's consent (source: American Automobile Association). This statistic is alarming and highlights how widespread this issue has become. It's time we address this unfair practice that disproportionately affects low-income individuals who already struggle with daily expenses.
We call upon local authorities and property management companies to put an end to these predatory towing practices by implementing clear signage indicating where visitors can park and by establishing fair rules about vehicle positioning. We also urge them to provide designated visitor parking spaces within these complexes.
Help us bring about change for residents living in low-income apartments and their guests by signing this petition today!
