End Unfair Ban on Specific Dog Breeds Like Pitbulls and Dogo Argentinos

The Issue

I am writing this petition with an intimate connection to the situation at hand. As a loving guardian to a Dogo Argentino, who has been a part of our family since he was a pup, this issue is close to my heart. He is a sweet dog who loves everyone he meets and responds fiercely only in our protection. The belief that breeds like Pitbulls and Dogo Argentinos should be banned due to aggression is misplaced, and in fact, it's all about how these dogs are raised and treated. Like all animals, all they seek is love.

Breed-specific legislation often fails to attain its goals because it primarily targets breeds instead of the specific dogs causing the issues. Moreover, it's not the breed but, indeed, the owner who determines a dog's behavior. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, controlled studies reveal no reduced risk of harm to humans due to breed-specific laws. A breed's propensity for aggression doesn’t confirm that any particular dog will be aggressive (American Veterinary Medical Association, 2014).

Therefore, we urge the relevant authorities to reconsider their stance on these breed-specific bans. Instead, encourage responsible pet ownership, provide comprehensive animal behavior training, and address the socio-economic factors that influence pet neglect and abuse. This change will ensure that no dog is unfairly targeted because of its breed and no family is forced to part from their loved pets unfairly. Please sign this petition so we can make a collective appeal to end the unjust banning of certain dog breeds.
