Our team on the ground in Yulin reported that yesterday, the Yulin dog meat "festival", many hotels had empty rooms, with rates cut nearly in half.
The two most popular dog meat restaurants, once packed during peak festival hours, were largely quiet between 7:00 and 9:00 pm.
And while the numbers are still heartbreaking, they are changing. In the early years, an estimated 10,000 dogs were killed annually. Today, that figure has dropped to fewer than 3,000.
Even one life lost is one too many. But this decline tells us something important.
Change is happening.
Your continued support accelerates our progress until this cruel event, and the broader dog and cat meat trade behind it, are over for good.
Make a lasting impact. Give today.
Do you remember when Yulin first drew global outrage more than a decade ago, about the time you signed this petition, millions spoke out, protests erupted, petitions spread worldwide and many organizations mobilized quickly to respond?
And then, as the media attention faded, so did much of the world’s focus.
What remained was the harder truth: real change would not come from outside pressure alone. It would require steady, long-term work within Yulin itself.
So we stayed.
For 13 years, Duo Duo Project has stood alongside local advocates, supporting grassroots efforts, educating the next generation, training veterinarians, and helping build a culture of compassion from within. We stayed not because it was easy. Because it was necessary. Because our beloved dogs are counting on us.
Thank you for standing with us. Our team in Yulin will be sending more insights about this year's "festival." We will share those updates with you soon.
With heartfelt gratitude,
